Changes in Ecosystems Over Time: Life Science
17.0...Identify ways in which ecosystems have changed throughout geologic time in response to physical conditions, interactions among organisms, and the actions of humans. Describe how changes may be catastropes such as volcanic eruptions or ice storms.
18.0...Recognize that biological evolution accounts for the diversity of species developed through gradual processes over many generations.
Natural change (volcano, earthquake, flood, fire,Tsunami)
Man made change (farming, cities, sports fields)
Primary succession: sequence of communities developing in a newly exposed habitat devoid of life ( succession on bare rock, newly deposited sand).
Secondary succession: sequence of communities taking place on sites that have already supported life (oldfield succession, clearcut forests, burned areas, etc.).
